#fulldisclosurefriday- That moment when the ENTIRE #carterstrong community is determined to keep the spirit alive of a sweet boy taken too soon from cancer. One way to do that… Hustle Kindness!
Carter’s family is one of the strongest families I have ever met. Through adversity, they have shown such strength, unity and grace. At every obstacle they’ve been faced with, they’ve hurdled over it like the superheroes that they are.
Even through the hardships, this family still found time to ensure that they showed kindness to those around them. I thought this was so AMAZING! They would Hustle Kindness any chance that they could. They would hand out stickers to kids in the hospital, popsicles to the Fit4Moms crew, books to others, etc. You name it, they would hustle that kindness to ensure that those around them would be smiling. Like I said, this is one awesome family.
Why don’t more people do this? Such a small act of kindness could go a very long way! So, let’s do it. Let’s hustle kindness :).
Introducing the topic to your child
It is not surprising that children are not the most giving creatures. That ‘Toddler Creed’ of “What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is mine, what’s ours is mine” did not get pulled out of thin air, haha! So, how do we teach our kiddos to be giving?
For one, I always LOVE using books to help provide context and generate discussions. Here is a great book titled, ‘The Giving Book’ written by Ellen Sabin.
After I introduced this topic with my girls, I told them that we will be going around our neighborhood and giving out cookies to be kind. For starters, we just worked on articulating the word ‘kindness’ because that is a tricky word to say! Next, I asked if they had any questions.
Caira first asked if a neighbor was bad, would they get a cookie? Great question! I told her it didn’t matter! We were just being kind and we were not going to worry about any “rules”. And honestly, those “questionable neighbors” may need more kindness than anyone!
I LOOOOVED how quickly Caira took to this concept.
When we went to the store to pick up our goodies, Caira immediately was drawn to the bouquet of flowers. She came up to me and said, “Mommy, can I give kindness to my teacher tomorrow?” while pointing to a bouquet of red roses. MY HEART MELTED! YESSSSS… YESS YOU CAN! She was getting it! We then went to grab the cookies and she wasn’t even that interested in getting them for herself. She was more excited about who she was going to give them to. Um, we need do this Hustle Kindness thing more often because it is working. #thankyoucarter
When we went around our neighborhood, it was amazing to see the smiles on others faces. They were genuinely happy and surprised with their goodies. We even had a few tears of joy!
